URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHICAGO/ROMEOVILLE IL

254 PM CST SAT FEB 24 2007

… WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6:00 PM THIS EVENING TO 6:00 AM CST SUNDAY …

… BLIZZARD WARNING IS CANCELLED …

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Winter Storm Warning, which is in effect from 6:00 PM this evening to 6:00 AM CST Sunday.  The Blizzard Warning has been cancelled.

The approaching winter storm will spread sleet, snow, and some freezing rain into the region early this evening.  Any snow accumulation will be reduced by the precipitation mix.  Expected snow accumulation may be 2-4″ along the Wisconsin border by mid-day Sunday.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet, and ice are expected or occurring.  Strong winds are also possible.  This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

NOTE FROM KC9GHZ:  Although the Blizzard Warning has been changed to a Winter Storm Warning for Lake County, all Wisconsin border counties remain in a Blizzard Warning.  The Winter Storm Warning also applies to McHenry, Boone, and Winnebago counties.  All other counties in the NWSFO Chicago CWA have been changed to an Ice Storm Warning.  While we are not in an Ice Storm Warning at the moment, it is possible that we will switch to one once the event unfolds.  Stay tuned for further developments.
