99L (Soon To Be Gabriel?)
As Bruce has been pointing out, there is a disturbance in the Atlantic Ocean off of the southeast coast (NHC Investigation 99L) that has the potential to become Tropical Storm Gabriel over the next few days. I’ve pulled together some interesting images, both past and current of the disturbance.

Hurricane Emily Comparisons:
Some people have noted the similarity of the potential forecast tracks for this (if it does develop) to Hurricane Emily, a Category 3 storm that side-swiped the coast of North Carolina in 1993.
NOAA’s GFDL has put together a short 3D analysis of the forecasts that were issued for Hurricane Emily, which is pretty cool if you want to get the idea of what kind of potential we are looking at. Visit this site and select Hurricane Emily.
Future Posts
I’ll have more images up tomorrow sometime as this either continues to develop or falls apart. For the latest update on the forecast status of this disturbance, read Bruce’s blog. Until next time, enjoy!
