URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHICAGO/ROMEOVILLE IL

435 AM CDT WEDNESDAY APRIL 11 2007

… SNOW ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM THURSDAY …

The Snow Advisory is now in effect until 4:00 AM Thursday.

A mix of rain and snow will continue early this morning, becoming predominantly all snow by late morning.  Snow may be heavy at times late this afternoon and early this evening.  Storm total snow accumulations of 4-7″ are possible through early Thursday morning.

A Snow Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties.  Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

DISCUSSION:  Low pressure centered over Kansas City this morning will track northeastward toward Chicago by this evening.  Warm moist air surging northward ahead of this storm system is encountering cooler air north of a Waterloo to Milwaukee line, where precipitation was predominantly snow early this morning.  This snow will expand southward into northeast Illinois this morning.  Snow amounts will be greatest north of a Waukegan to Amboy line, with lesser snow amounts expected elsewhere north of I-80.  The snow is expected to end late tonight.
