Tuesday Night Outlook
Tuesday, June 26th, 2007Text From The RACES Tuesday Night Net:
High temperatures tomorrow will peak around 85. Things will cool down with the passage of a cold front Wednesday evening, dropping highs into the mid-70’s for Thursday and Friday. Things will warm up a little on the weekend with highs in the upper 70’s, possibly breaking 80 the beginning of next week. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening. Otherwise, skies will remain partly cloudy to mostly sunny.
Detailed Forecast Discussion:
An upper level disturbance working it’s way across North Dakota and northern Minnesota is pushing a cold front across southern Minnesota and northwest Iowa. While the upper level disturbance will weaken as it becomes absorbed into an upper level low over Canada, it will help to strengthen the cold front. This front is expected to slide southeastward across the area Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening. Both of the main forecast models suggest a gradual wind shift Wednesday morning, and a threat of thunderstorms as the front approaches starting in the late morning. The extent of the precipitation will probably be determined upon the time of day that the front passes, or whether it slows down. Precipitable water values remain high until after the front passes, so the possibility of localized flooding remains possible. Given that precipitation will be dependent upon the timing of the frontal passage, current forecasts are keeping chances of precipitation pretty high.
An area of high pressure will pass over the area late in the week, providing cooler temperatures from the north. Southwesterly winds will return early next week, bringing temperatures back up into the upper 80’s.
