FLOOD WATCH

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHICAGO/ROMEOVILLE IL

317 PM CDT MONDAY JULY 16 2007

… FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING (6:00 AM) THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING (MIDNIGHT) …

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Illinois and Indiana from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening.

A series of disturbances from the northwest will kick off areas of thunderstorms later tonight into midweek.  With increasing moisture working in from the west the potential exists for local areas of heavy rain late tonight into Tuesday night.

Thunderstorms with locally heavy rain are expected to develop after midnight with periods of rain or storms persisting through Tuesday into Tuesday night.  Locally heavy rainfall rates or persistent rain due to slow movement of cells poses the threat of flooding.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.  You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings.  Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
