Severe Weather Discussion
On Sunday, there is a risk of severe weather after 1 PM. Currently, the general risk is 15%. Areas of southern and western Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota are at risk of a severe weather outbreak. Conditions are most favorable there for large hail and some strong tornadoes. As this system moves northeast, lines of thunderstorms will be the primary effect but most of the energy should go wth it. A cold front will move close to the area as this system moves away. Most models have this front stalling over southern Wisconsin Sunday night. Should this front sag south of the area late Monday, the current forecast of cloudy with temps near 70 will have to be changed to a likelyhood of thunderstorms and possible heavy rain on Tuesday.
Rain and thunderstorms will enter the area after 3 PM today. There is no severe weather expected, however, 3/4 to 1″ of rain is possible in the next 24 hours. This will likely keep the Des Plaines river above action to minor flood stage through the next 48 hours.
Spring temperatures will return to the area with 60’s and 70’s likely through Thursday expect for a possible NE wind and cool temps on Tuesday.
Another major weather pattern change appears to be in the future as April comes in. The first 10 days of April could be miserable with temps 5-10 degrees below average. Snow is not out of the question and one low temp in the teens is possible. This should be winters last gasp at taking control as a huge warmup looks to follow this last shot. Temps in the 70’s and maybe a couple of 80’s would not be far behind.
