Jerry, Karen and Lorenzo, Who’s Next?

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Now that Humberto can no longer be Ingrid, could he be Jerry or Karen?  Hmmm, or Lorenzo…  Whether or not he/she returns, I think all three of these names will be used in the next 2 weeks.  The set up is for home-grown storms.  The ones that form west of 60 west.  You know, the ones that hit Florida, Louisiana, Texas.  I’m not saying, I’m just saying.  Water temperatures in the Gulf are about 1.5 degrees C above the averages and you saw what can happen when conditions are ripe.

As far as us, the near record cold will give way to what could be one of the largest temperature rises in a short period of time in September on record.  Could go from 37 degrees Sunday morning to 88 degrees on Tuesday.  The weather pattern favors temperatures to be about 5-10 degrees above average over the next 3 weeks.  That doesn’t mean there won’t be shots of cold, it just means the return of the warmth will be that much warmer.  On average, there are 22 days over 70 degrees, of which 7 days are over 80 for the balance of the warm season.  We could blow those both out by the time November comes.  However, this is a typical La Nina.  Warmer falls.  The downside are colder winters.  Remember the winters we used to have?  You might get a vivid reminder this winter.  Again, I’m not saying, I’m just saying.
