When will this all end? 11:30 PM

Friday, April 13th, 2007

I have to admit, I am surprised that we have yet to shake the winter pattern. There is a fairly deep snowpack across Canada and this carries some responsibility for this pickle were in. I was convinced that we would break into a spring pattern by the 10th of the month but now it appears that it will not happen until about the 26th. We are beginning the season of the dreaded wind off the pond syndrome. That will be next weeks issue. After that, fingers crossed, a substantial warm up will begin with 70’s by next weekend and maybe even some 80’s the week after. I hope so, it will be May.

After the 26th, winter will be over.

I’m currently going through the record books to see if this particular event has ever occurred on record in Chicago before. Can you figure out what I’m looking for? Send me an e-mail. I’m curious as to your guesses.

I will tell you that it is not about the past snow event. Although, this was the largest snow event for this time of year since 1982. I new we were overdue. However, we did have a similiar, not as large, snow event in April of 2003.

I’ll have the answer over the weekend.

Oh, by the way, the current storm system will pass to the south and blast New England with a big noreaster.
