A Word About Barry, The Summer and The Sound

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

It looks like the second tropical system of the season could form over the western part of Cuba on Friday or Saturday. It could be a tropical or sub-tropical system. It will likley move NE over Florida and out into the open Atlantic. With the waters in the Gulf about 1.5 degrees F and 1.0 degrees F higher than last year in the Atlantic, more tropical systems are likely. The eastern Pacific is off to a quick start which is puzzling me. If we are going into a La Nina, the Pacific should start late and be below average. I guess we’ll know in the next 6 weeks.

WOW. The spring of 2007 was more than 3 degrees F above average. May had 13 days in the 80’s which is twice the average. I don’t see anything that would change that pattern for at least the early part of summer. Looks like June may have 6-8 days over 90. This would blow up my entire summer forecast. It looks like the middle of June could turn out to be a scorcher. How does 8-12 degrees above average sound from about the 12th to the 20th.

Speaking of sound, are the Cicadas as loud in your area as they are in mine. I can hear them from inside.

Enjoy, they won’t be back until 2024.
