Are You Surprised, You Shouldn’t Be

Lorenzo went from a 35 mph depression to a 75 mph hurricane in 12 hours. Why are you so surprised?

Remember Humberto. It was almost the same situation. Once the mid level low pressure moved away from the center it helped evacuate the air just as it happened in Humberto. Once the process begins, the tropical strom can then take care of itself with no restrictions. A new recon plane left Biloxi about 10 minutes ago and we should have a new data stream in about 90 minutes. The new data format is truly remarkable. The recon plane takes observations every 30 seconds. Every 10 minutes the info is sent to the satellite and then to the NHC. It arrives on the EMWIN system 90 seconds later. This is as real time as it gets.

Looking at the new IR satellite, it would not surprise me that Lorenzo makes a cat. 2 before moving into Mexico late tonight.

Remember the last blog discussion on Karen. I talked about her weakening and turning west under the trough. Well, some of the new data is beginning to show just that.
